History:
In the Fall of 1997, Mayor Jerry Johnson called together a group of citizens who had an interest in the heritage of Mount Airy, with the idea of establishing a non-profit corporation to oversee the Mount Airy Museum. As a result of this meeting, the Historical Society of Mount Airy, Maryland, Inc. was established in 1998.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Historical Society of Mount Airy, Maryland, Inc. is to foster interest in the town history, and to inform the public about our history.
Purpose:
The purposes for which the Historical Society of Mount Airy, Maryland, Inc. (HSMA) are organized are charitable, historical and educational. HSMA is organized to operate an educational and charitable museum, and generally to preserve and expand the public appreciation of the historical heritage of Mount Airy.
Goals:
Our main goals are to establish and maintain a museum for the display of artifacts, photographs and other historic memorabilia related to the town history, and to inform the public about our history.
